2020 Lincoln Aviator: Design, Specs, Equipment, Release

The wave of the new SUVs splashed the 2018 Los Angeles Show. Lincoln used the show to present the all-new 2020 Lincoln Aviator. The new model is the brand’s replacement for the MKT model and takes the position between the larger Navigator and smaller Nautilus in the brand’s lineup. With this launch, Lincoln has the three-row, mid-size SUV to go against the market giants like the BMW X5, Audi Q7, Volvo XC-90 and Mercedes GLE.

Lincoln’s new Explorer-based SUV offers the six and seven-seat configurations and plenty of the high-end luxury features. The model also gets an attention with the sleek exterior style and the brand’s latest tech and safety equipment. The Aviator gets the propulsion from the twin-turbo V-6 engine and the new plug-in hybrid powertrain is also available making the model the most powerful Lincoln ever.

The all-new, three-row 2020 Lincoln Aviator shares the same architecture with the upcoming, sixth-generation Explorer. This is actually the second generation of the nameplate while the model effectively replaces the MKT SUV. The rear-wheel architecture allows multiple configuration setups including the four-wheel drive.

From the visual perspective, the Aviator uses the styling cues from the larger Navigator SUV and Continental sedan. The look of the model isn’t also the surprise because we saw the Lincoln Prototype model at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show.

The large Continental-sedan-like grille and angular headlights define the front-end style in combination with the nice front bomber. The chiseled lines on the hood and sharp charter line mixed with the smooth surfaces form the elegant and attractive look. The sloping roofline and full-width LEDs on tailgate add also to the visual impression.

Interior, equipment:

The premium exterior look comes in hand with the high-class interior design and top-notch tech features. The new Aviator lifted the luxury to the new heights.

The luxury SUV promises the high comfort for the passengers in all three rows and the room for their cargo. The rich textures and details leave also the strong impression while the high-tech features make the ride easier and funnier.

Lincoln offers its new, stunning SUV in the base, Reserve and Black Label trims. There the model will include the leather upholstery, aluminum and wood textures. The model will also offer the 30-way power adjustable front seats and highly configurable middle row. The equipment list will also include the large head-up display, Revel audio systems, 28-speaker Ultima 3D surround system, wireless charging, etc. The handy Lincoln Way app will also provide stop and start functions via the cellphone.

The Aviator will also rely on the Co-Pilot 360 Plus package of the advanced safety systems. The model will come with the sophisticated adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, Stop and Go function bundled in the Traffic Jam Assist system. The safety aspect will also include Active Park Assist, Reverse Brake Assist and Evasive Braking Assist.

The premium style and feel will also be backed up with the high-performance powertrains. The 2020 Lincoln Aviator will employ the 3.0-liter bi-turbo V-6 in two configurations, 10-speed automatic transmission, sophisticated suspension and systems to provide the high-class and high-performance ride.

A 3.0-liter V-6 with the twin turbocharges will provide the “base” performance of 400 hp and 450 pound-feet of torque. The Grand Touring version will use the same engine in the combination with the battery-powered electric motor. The motor provides instant torque and the combined output with the V-6 engine of 450 hp and 600 lb-ft. The system includes also the 10-speed automatic transmission with the electric motor placed in transmissions housing while the battery takes the place under the floor below the passengers’ area.

The ride comfort will also be the strong side of this premium model and Lincoln uses the adaptive air suspension with the camera system monitoring the road ahead and adjusting the settings in the real time. The multiple driving modes will also tailor the ride to the conditions. The base model will switch between the Normal, Conserve, Excite, Slippery, and off-road Deep Conditions mode. The plug-in hybrid version will add the Pure EV and Preserve EV modes with one prioritizing the performance while another efficiency.

The 2020 Lincoln Aviator will have the release date next summer. The price and other details, like the fuel economy will be revealed closer to the launch. The starting point should be near $50, 000.

2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid: News, Design

Honda’s popular CR-V SUV has a versatile and roomy cabin and also delivers a comfortable ride with plenty of safety gear in all models. The model was all-new for the 2017 model year and Honda promised recently the hybridization of the entire light-duty truck range. The 2019 CR-V will appear with minimal changes without of the styling and powertrain upgrades when speaking about the currently available engine options but according to some reports the 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid could appear in late 2019 model year or wait for the 2020 version.

What’s is known so far, the hybrid powertrain should use the same formula as Accord Hybrid sedan with firm’s two-motor configuration. The styling and interior should be very similar to the petrol-powered models.

There are no details from Honda about the hybrid version of the desirable CR-V but if the model arrives as the 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid, it won’t differ much visually from the current non-hybrid version. On the hand, if Honda waits for the 2020 model year launch the model could come with the refreshed styling.

In any case, there won’t be obvious differences between the hybridized model and conventionally powered CR-Vs. The model will continue in the same shape and size while the distinction will make unique grille version, wheel design and appropriate badging.

Interior, features:

Interior of the CR-V hybrid will also be the familiar form from the current CR-V. The model will have a high dose of interior style but will win with the practicality and functionality. A number of clever compartments will be available inside the cabin and the CR-V has well-placed controls as well. The model will also be available with the upscale upgrades including high-quality upholstery, heating features, and will also include Honda’s latest tech features.

The model will come with the responsive infotainment system but will also be equipped with the array of the safety equipment. The equipment list will include systems like adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, etc.

There is no doubt, that 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid (or another model year version) will use Honda’s two-motor system. Like the Accord Hybrid sedan, the CR-V SUV should get the Atkinson cycle 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the combination with the electric motors and battery pack. The power and performance of the system haven’t appeared yet but the same setup makes 212 hp and manages 47 combined fuel economy in the Acord sedan.

The CR-V Hybrid will likely be the most powerful CR-V and the most efficient as well. It will beat easily 30 mpg combined of the turbo-4 powertrain and will also challenge the rivals of RAV4 Hybrid, Rogue Hybrid, etc.

No confirmation of the arrival of the CR-V Hybrid yet from Honda. The reports claim the model could arrive late in the 2019 model year or more likely wait for the refresh and the 2020 version.

The price of the possible 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid is also unknown. The base model of the current CR-V starts from around $25, 000 and the hybrid would close to the 30k range likely.

Mercedes revealed the all-new EQC electric model from the established EQ sub-brand. The model made the debut in Stockholm, Sweden and the public debut will take place at the upcoming Pairs Auto Show. Mercedes announced ten electric models by 2025 and the new EQC follows the Smart EQ ForTwo model.

The model goes on sale as the 2020 Mercedes EQC and will deliver strong performance and 200+ miles of the electric range. The sleek look with the specific front-end style will get attention while the interior will come with the MBUX multimedia system by default.

The new 2020 Mercedes EQC is based on the scalable electric platform designed to support the family of the potential models. The model measures 187.4 inches in length and is about 4 inches longer than its conventionally powered equivalent the  GLC model.

Styling wise, the EQC looks elegant and has a unique front-end section. The large black panel covers large section in the front end including some of the bumper area. The headlights and grille are also the part of this section as well as LED light signature.

The profile of the model has the similar shape as the Mercedes GLC and the rear comes with the nice taillights and full-width LED band. The model will also get the wheel options in 19 to 21-inch range with different styles and unique blue accents.

The cabin of the model will be defined with the MBUX design which debuted on the A-Class. The design includes the fully digital panel that incorporates the digital instrument cluster and extra wide infotainment panel in the singe section.

The model will also come with the sports, multi-functional steering wheel and the center stack will include rectangular air vents and more buttons below.

Mercedes will, of course, offer several levels of high-quality materials and the latest tech and safety features.

2020 Mercedes EQC: Performance, Mileage

Mercedes revealed the 2020 Mercedes EQC 400 version but more variants will be available. This version includes electric motors at each axle and the system forms the all-wheel drive. The driver will also be able to switch between five drive modes Comfort, Eco, Max Range, Sport and Individual.

The powertrain provides a total of 402 hp and torque of 564 pound-feet. The rear motor in the system improves the performance while the front manages efficiency. The system connects motors with the wheels via the single speed transmission. Mercedes also claims 60 mph in 4.9 seconds.

The model has the flat floor-mounted battery pack of 80 kWh. This lithium-ion unit should provide the electric range of 200 miles as Mercedes claims.  The fast-charging unit will need 40 minutes to recharge the battery to 80 percent capacity.

2021 BMW X3 eDrive: News, Expectations, Release

The handsome and responsive-to-drive, mid-size, BMW X3 entered the third generation in late 2017 but BMW also defined the next step for this model. The electrification is among the priorities for the brands and BMW is working on the electric-powered X3 version. The new version of the popular X3 was previewed by the iX3 concept at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show and the launch date is expected sometime in 2020. The electric X3 will likely arrive as the part 2021 model year and unlike some expected to be marketed as the 2021 BMW X3 eDrive the model will go to the production under the i sub-brand and use the iX3 nomenclature.

The prototype of the future electric iX3 is already performing the out-door testing and it looks almost identical to the newest version of the conventionally-powered X3. The models will also share the most of the in-car technologies and interior design. The model will be sold globally and the production will take the place in China.

The 2021 BMW iX3 will use the new-generation eDrive platform that actually debuted on its Concept version but won’t go on sale as the 2021 BMW X3 eDrive as some expected. This platform will also be the base of many future vehicles from the brand and BMW is also working on the new-generation solid batteries for the electric models. However, these batteries won’t be here in time for this model but we should expect very good driving range despite that.

On the other hand, the styling of the model won’t be the large departure from the conventional version form. The prototype version spotted recently is almost identical to the current X3 and just a few details make the difference. The model has a conventional kidney grille but for the production version, we should expect enclosed variant like on the Concept vehicle.

BMW will also use slightly different bumpers and what will also define this model are the side charging port and the model will also lack the exhaust tips.

Interior, Equipment:

Inside, the iX3 will also use the same layout as the recently all-new, conventionally-powered X3 but BMW will add a few unique details.

The model will come with the high-end materials and in-car technologies. It will use the new-design instrument panel and the latest connectivity tech. BMW is also working on the self-driving technologies and in the time of coming this model will also integrate the achievements in that area.

As for the powertrain of the 2021 BMW X3 eDrive, it is too early to have precise details but the model won’t depart far from what BMW presented on the concept model.

The model will integrate the fifth-generation eDrive system but remains to see what performance it will be capable of. The newest eDrive version has separate components as will use the high-capacity batteries. BMW promise, its new-gen solid-state batteries would do more than 400 miles per charge but the iX3 should hit the roads before the arrival of these batteries.  The mileage would likely be in 200-range.

The Concept version had a 270-horsepower electric motor in the combination with the 70-kWh battery. BMW claimed the range of this setup to 250 miles and fast charging to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. The production version should be close to these numbers as well.

2020 BMW X6: Redesign, News, Specs, Arrival

BMW is constantly working on its growing SUV range and has again been caught testing the new-generation, 2020 BMW X6. The redesign of the coupe-like styled, mid-size SUV follows naturally the recent makeover of the conventionally shaped X5 and again two models will share most nuts and bolts.

The third-generation X6 has been testing on the roads for a while and we saw the base version and the M body kit version. What we should expect is the all-new X6 based on the new platform and with the mechanics similar to the closest relative X5. The interior design and available tech will also borrow heavily from the X5 while the new more aggressive exterior will also adapt the cues from the X4 model.

The redesigned 2020 BMW X6 isn’t yet ready to ditch the camo but we can detect the direction the new version follows. The full-body camo can’t hide model’s more muscular shape and the cues from both the latest X4 and X5.

The front section of the model will get the new and enlarged version of the kidney grille and in the combination with the new headlights with the similar design pattern as on the latest BMWs. The laser headlights with the X-shape elements will also go to the production. The model will also get the redesigned rear end with the cues from the X4 model.

The BMW X6 M version will boost the performance and the look with the M body kit and equipment. The front fascia of this version will use the sportier front bumper with larger air intakes and more sculpted low section. The large, high-performance wheels, massive Brembo brakes and quad exhaust setup will also boost the presence of the M version.

The new X6 will, more importantly, switch to the new CLAR platform which should improve the drive, structural rigidly and provide reduced weight. Like the X5 model, the coupe variant could stretch the length and width as well.

The interior of the new X6 hasn’t yet been in focus of the spy camera but the cabin design shouldn’t stray far from what we have in the new X5. The similar dash design and layout will appear in the X6 as well as the high-tech features from the popular conventionally shaped, mid-size SUV.

The new X6 will offer the digital instrument panel and the driver-focused center cluster with BMW’s newest infotainment platform. The coupe-like SUV will lack some of the rear seat comforts as it prioritizes style but will include all the electronic driver aids we can find in the brand’s new models.

As for the engine options, the new 2020 BMW X6 should go with the similar solutions as the recently redesigned X5.

The powertrain range should start with the 3.0-liter inline-6 turbo with 335 horses and 330 lb-ft of torque. Following the xDrive40i version should be an xDrive50i model with the 4.4-liter turbo V-8 with the power around 456 hp and torque reaching 479 lb-ft of torque.

The X6 M version should rely on the 4.4-liter bi-turbo V-8 and get from it around 600 hp and torque of 553 lb-ft. The plug-in hybrid version should also appear later in the life cycle.

2019 Audi Q7: Changes, Specs, Price

Audi’s family-friendly Q7 has recently got a more aggressive, coupe-like style counterpart which carries the Q8 badge. The three-row Q7 was the all-new for the 2017 model year and arrived almost unchanged for the 2018 version. There won’t be major changes for the 2019 Audi Q7 as well.

The model delivers premium interior quality and comfort and also offers cutting-edge tech and safety features. For the new model year, it should get a few standard equipment extras and more accessible crash avoidance techs. The engine options, exterior, and interior design will return familiar.

Despite the new Q8 model is based on the Q7 it applies the new styling theme with more aggressive cues while sits lower to the ground and has a wider track. The models share the same wheelbase.

The new styling on the Q8 gives us an idea about the direction Audi will follow with the future models and the Q7 will also apply some its aesthetics when it reaches the next update in about a year from now.

The 2019 Audi Q7 will in the meantime continue with the familiar styling and body shape. Buyers should expect new color options, wheel design and new accents in some packages. The model will, on the other hand, keep now the old-style grille version, and taillights.

Inside the cabin, the 2019 Q7 won’t also go with major changes. It will keep the current dash design and familiar layout. Audi will again offer diverse leather and texture combinations and well-equipped trims. More standard equipment should be available and wider availability of the active safety systems.

The base Q7 will include leather upholstery, a moonroof, keyless ignition, power front seats, automatic climate control, a 7-inch touchscreen interface, a rearview camera and more. It will also offer the heated rear seats and steering wheel. Upper grades will add features such as the four-zone climate control, digital cockpit, ventilated and massaging front seats, upgraded upholstery and more.

The model will also get the latest crash avoidance technology and it should become more accessible.

The aluminum-intensive Q7 is responsive and agile on the road and it will return with the same mechanics for the 2019 model year.

The barely-enough 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine will remain the base option. This engine produces 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. All Q7s are with the 8-speed automatic and Quattro all-wheel-drive system.

More adequate and capable is a 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 and it now makes 333 hp and torque of 325 lb-ft. This engine will allow more of towing and passing power while will accelerate to 60 mph in around 5.7 seconds.

The model will also offer the air suspension while both powertrains should deliver around 21 mpg combined fuel economy.

2020 Honda Passport: Design, Specs, Equipment, Price

Honda has recently revived the Passport nameplate and the model takes the form of the two-row crossover SUV with the “soft off-road” capability and plenty of interior space. The Passport model fills the gap between the compact CR-V and mid-size Pilot in the brand’s formidable crossover SUV range. The model shares plenty of style, interior features and mechanics with the Pilot SUV and the production takes place at the factory in Lincoln, Alabama where the three-row Pilot is being assembled as well.

Honda will offer the 2020 Honda Passport with the single engine option like the mid-size Pilot and the range of trims will also be familiar. The two-row Passport will go on sale in four trims including Sport, EX-L, Touring ould and Elite. The model will provide the same towing capability as the larger Pilot while will be more capable for the off-road adventures. There will also be the latest tech and safety systems and several premium features.

The 2020 Honda Passport shares the platform with the Pilot SUV and Ridgeline pickup and the model uses also the similar mechanic elements.

The Passport is, however, sized for the transportation of up to five people and provides plenty of cargo thanks to the clever interior design. The model measures 190,5 inches from bumper to bumper while rides on the 111-inch wheelbase. The wheelbase is identical to that of the larger Pilot but the Passport is 6 inches shorter while has a 10-inch longer footprint than the compact CR-V.

Form the visual perspective, the model looks like the shrunken Pilot with the similar shape and styling elements. The shape of the grille and the headlights are similar to the latest vehicles from Honda. The Passport has also nice creases on the hood and dynamic character line on the side panels.

The model improves also the off-road capability with the lifted ride height and taller wheel arches than the larger Pilot. The Passport has the ride height of 8.4 inches and boasts also the better approach and departure angles than the larger cousin. The approach angle is 21,4 degrees and departure 27, 6 inches.

Interior, Equipment:

Inside the cabin, the Passport uses the design familiar from the larger Pilot and offer a similar equipment range. The same wheelbase as the three-row Pilot provides, however, competitive passenger and cargo space.  With the all five seats in function, the model provides 41,2 cubes of the cargo room while with no passengers in the rear row the capacity shrinks to 100 cubes. The model has also a number of storage compartments and plenty of the legroom in both rows.

As for the available equipment, the base model starts with the cloth upholstery, LED headlights, keyless ignition, etc. The standard equipment includes also the 7-inch TFT instrument cluster display, a 5-inch center screen, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, etc. The EX-L adds an 8-inch touchscreen with the smartphone support, leather upholstery, power tailgate, heated front seats, etc. The Touring improves with the heated rear seats, wi-fi hotspot, parking sensors, etc. The range-topping version has the cooled seats, heated steering wheel, unique trim accents and more.

Honda makes also the Passport safer with the standard systems like the adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, active lane control and lane departure warning. The blind-spot monitoring becomes the standard equipment in the EX-L and upper grades.

The 2020 Honda Passport adopts the Pilot-based underpinning and the same engine as well. A 3.5-liter V-6 makes 280 hp and torque of 262 pound-feet. The 9-speed automatic transmission sends the power to the front wheel by default. The available four-wheel drive and improved ride height compared to the three-row Pilot and combined with the shorter overhangs boost the off-road capability over the Pilot’s but the Passport remains the soft off-roader.

The Passport will also provide the good towing capability. The same platform and mechanics mean the same towing ratings as the Pilot SUV. The front-wheel-drive Passport allows up to 3, 500 pounds of towing. With the power on all wheels, the model can tow up to 5, 000 pounds.

2020 Jeep Renegade: Changes, Plug-in hybrid, Release

The smallest Jeep on the road, the compact Renegade crossover SUV entered the 2019 model year with updates on all fronts. The model received more modern styling and updated interior followed by the latest infotainment tech and newly introduced active safety systems. The model is available with the different powertrains and capable off-road gear.

However, Jeep announced earlier the electrification of its entire range. The brand promised 12 electric powertrains including the mild-hybrid and hybrid versions, plug-in hybrid and battery electric propulsion options by 2020. The Renegade model will also benefit from this strategy and the biggest news for the 2020 Jeep Renegade will be the introduction of the plug-in hybrid version. Other versions after the recent update will return with minimal modifications.

The compact Jeep Renegade is more modern looking crossover thanks to the recent refresh. The recent update brought the sleeker version of the seven-slot grille accompanied by the new LED headlights and fog lights. The lower front fascia has a more modern design while the rear comes with the refreshed taillights with the modified X pattern. The model will be available with different wheel options ranging from 16- to 19 inches.

As for the 2020 Jeep Renegade, there won’t be anything new to see. Even the new plug-in hybrid version won’t differ much from the combustion engine-powered versions. The badging and a few other details will help to recognize the electrified model.

Jeep updated also the interior of the 2019 version and there won’t be major changes for the new model year. The recent refresh introduced the redesigned center stack and Jeep also improved the storage compartments. The new USB port is also available but the smallest Jeep is also equipped with the latest tech and safety systems.

The Renegade will come with the new Uconnect infotainment system with the screens measuring 5, 7 and 8.4 inches. The active safety equipment will include lane departure warning with speed assist, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and sign recognition.

The 2020 Jeep Renegade will be available with the variety of the engine options depending on the market. The list of engines will include a 1.0-liter gasoline unit with the output of 120 hp. A larger 1.3-liter engine will make 150 or 180 horsepower depending on the version. The diesel range will include a 1.6-liter unit with the power output of 120 hp while another 2.0-liter diesel unit will produce 140 or 170 hp.

The transmission options will include a six-speed manual, 7-speed dual-clutch and 9-speed automatic. There will be two- and four-wheel drive options with the available Selec-Terrain control system and off-road upgrades.

As for the plug-in hybrid version, Jeep hasn’t revealed the details yet. What is sure, FCA will use the similar technology applied to the Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The new design opens the door for the mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid technologies as well as for the Ingenium family of engines.

With the new underpinning, the redesigned Evoque also sports the sleeker Velar-inspired look and a 90 percent of the body structure is also new. The new body is placed on 0.8 inches longer wheelbase. This translates to more rear legroom but with the shorter overhangs, the model is actually slightly shorter.

Styling:

The look of the new Evoque is the evolution of the current design with the obvious similarities with the Velar SUV. The same basic look remains in the combination with the sloping roofline and high beltline. The models gained, however, the new grille and headlights and redesigned lower openings. The slim grille version has the honeycomb pattern and comes with the narrow, nicely accentuated headlights.

The model has also the smooth body lines and flush door handles. The sculpted fenders add a bit of the contrast to the flat panels. The rear side is also fresh with the new two-piece taillights.

The brand will offer the new Evoque with nice contrasting body painting options and wheel sizes ranging from 17- 21 inches.

Interior, equipment:

The interior of the new Evoque comes with the improved comfort and the latest technologies. The stretched wheelbase opens more space for the rear passengers and the new seats also boost the comfort. With the increased passenger comfort, the new Evoque improved also the cargo area to 50.5 cubic feet.

The handsome look of the model is matched with the high-quality materials and rich textures inside the cabin. The model also gained the Touch Pro Duo touchscreen system with the pair of 10.2-inch screens which debuted in the Velar model. The Evoque provides also Apple Car Play and Android Auto support. In front of the driver is a 12.-3 digital instrument cluster and there is also the head-up display projecting the information on the windshield.  The newly added ground view camera also provides the picture of what is underneath and ahead of the front wheels.

2020 Range Rover Evoque: Powertrains

The power for the new 2020 Range Rover Evoque comes from the two powertrain options in the US while the diesel options will appear on the Old Continent.

The base Evoque will use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Ingenium engine. The unit makes 246 hp and torque of 369 lb-ft compared to the previous version 237 hp and torque of 251 lb-ft. In the combination with the engine is a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

The option will be a P300 version with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The power it provides is 296 hp and the MHEV system. Using also the 14.7-hp belt-integrated generator it provides 6 percent improved efficiency and improved torque response.

JLR hasn’t confirmed yet the plug-in hybrid powertrain for the US which will appear in Europe next year. The system will integrate the 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with the power output of 197 hp in the combination with the starter generator and electric motor. The 40.2-hp generator will power the front wheels while the 106-hp electric motor will spin the rear wheels and get the power from the 11.3- kWh battery.

The model also features the new-generation all-wheel-drive system which can transfer the power between the rear wheels simulating the torque vectoring and can also lock the rear wheels. The Terrain Select 2 system will also be available with the modes for Sand, Mud, Snow, Eco, etc. The SUV boasts also lifted ground clearance. The 8.3 inches of the ground clearance comes with the 20-degree approach and 30-degree departure angles while can go through the 23.6-inch deep water.

The 2020 Range Rover Evoque will go on sale in the US next year after the debut at the next Chicago Auto Show. We will know the price after the debut but it should go slightly up from the current base $42, 000.

2019 Nissan Xterra: News, Design, Release

With the recently redesigned Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco in the prospect, body-on-frame, off-road-focused SUVs gained the interest of buyers again. That is why Nissan might reconsider the return of the discontinued, off-road ready Nissan Xterra. The model based on the aged mid-size Frontier truck might return after the introduction of the new-generation Frontier and with the design inspired by the global Navara truck.

The rumors are circulating that after the introduction of the body-on-frame, seven-seat Terra SUV based on the Navara pickup truck in China and other Asian markets, Nissan might also offer the successor of the Xterra model alongside the redesigned Frontier truck. The new Terra SUV replaced the Paladin model which was the Xterra version for the Chinese market.  Now, since this model is based on global Navara truck which should be the base for the new-generation Frontier, there are chances that Nissan might introduce the replacement for the capable Xterra as well. According to some reports, the model could even arrive as the 2019 Nissan Xterra or without the X.

2019 Nissan Xterra: Design

As the last version of the Xterra model was based on the same architecture as the Frontier pickup, the new 2019 Nissan Xterra should also use the same recipe. Nissan hasn’t revealed details but the new Frontier truck should borrow heavily from the global Navara truck and the Terra SUV available in Asia also uses the Navara’s proven underpinning which also underpins the Mercedes X-Class pickup. And like the new Ranger truck shares the bones with the global model and will borrow the chassis to the new Bronco the global Navara should be the base of the 2019 Xterra or Terra or however it would be called.

With the similar underpinning, the new Xterra model should also share similar styling cues with the global Navara truck and Terra seven-seater. That means the new version of the V-motion grille combined with the new LED-accentuated headlights and sleeker front bumper. The side body sculpting should have pronounced fender flares and dynamic waistline.

Interior, Equipment:

Inside the cabin, the design should also follow the pattern of the global, mid-size truck. That should mean nicer materials and better comfort compared the dated Frontier truck and discontinued Xterra SUV.

The V-shaped center stack should come with the newest infotainment system and connectivity options. The model should also offer the luxury options and modern safety gear as well.

As for the engine options, the 2019 Nissan Xterra should share the same units as the new generation Frontier. Nissan promised the new V-6 engine for the redesigned Frontier and Titian trucks. The Xterra model would also use the same engine as well as the four-cylinder variant.

The global Navara-based Terra SUV goes with the petrol or diesel engines depending on the market. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder making around 183 hp is under the hood of the Chinese version. In other markets, this model can be had with the 2.3-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine from the Navara truck with 163 or 190 horsepower. The V-6 petrol is also available in some regions.

The US Xterra could also gain the diesel engine as this trend also was introduced with the new mid-size trucks. The new transmission should also improve the efficiency and off-road gear would be up to the task as well.

2019 Nissan Xterra: Arrival, Price

Nissan said that the new Terra model will go on sale in Asian and African markets but hasn’t promised the US replacement for the Xterra model. The rumors claim the model will arrive as the 2019 Nissan Xterra or latter after the introduction of the new Frontier.
