2020 Toyota Highlander: Redesign, Changes, Arrival

Toyota’s reliable, mid-size, three-row Highlander crossover
SUV is faced now with many updated, redesigned or newly-introduced models. Ford
revealed recently the heavily-improved Explorer and the Highlander has also the
updated Honda Pilot and Buick Encore in the sight but also the newcomers such
as the Kia Telluride, Subaru Ascent and Hyundai Palisade. The all-new
Highlander arrived for 2014 and received the mid-update for the 2017 version.
Toyota has, however, been caught testing the new-generation 2020 Toyota
Highlander recently.

Details about the fifth-generation Highlander are still scarce but the three-row family hauler should grow in size and move on the new platform. The styling should also see the revisions in accordance to brand’s latest design language while model should also come with the heavily reworked interior and newest tech, comfort and safety features. The powertrain range should again include the gasoline and electrified versions.

2020 Toyota Highlander: Design, Platform

Toyota is prepping the new 2020 Toyota Highlander and like
many of its recent models, the version will be based on the stretched version
of the TNGA modular platform which forms also the base of the models like the
CH-R, Avalon, Camry, RAV4, etc. With the Toyota Global New architecture, the
Highlander should provide better performance and flexibility plus weigh less
while the prototype versions suggest also the enlarged dimensions.

Form the visual point of view, it seems that the test
version hides the styling similar to what we can see on recently all-new RAV4.
The styling cues we saw initially on the FT-AC concept model should be applied
to the new Highlander as well. That should mean hexagonal grille design
combined with swept-back headlights and dynamic front bumper style. 

The profile seems also to be coming with the trapezoidal
shaped fender flares and cleaner lines. The rear will also receive the new
taillights and resculpted tailgate and rear bumper.

Interior, Equipment:

Inside the cabin, we should expect more passenger and cargo
space as the prototype version seem to have stretched wheelbase and length. The
current Highlander provides max cargo capacity of 84 cubes and just 14 cubic
feet with the all seats functional.

The new Highlander will also arrive with the new interior
design and upgraded materials and textures. The model should use similar dash
elements placement as the RAV4 with the center screen sitting atop the middle
of the dash and new air vents.

The new generation version will also adopt the latest Entune infotainment platform with Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The safety will also be updated to the latest Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite with the sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, etc.

2020 Toyota Highlander: Powertrain

No details have leaked yet about the powertrain Toyota will
use in the new generation 2020 Toyota Highlander.   

The range should include the four-cylinder and V-6 gasoline
units like in the current version and the electrified option as well. The
possible candidates should be the units from the mid-size Camry sedan. A
2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with power around 200 hp and the V-6 unit with
the potential around 300 hp. Both engines should come in the combination with
the 8-speed automatic transmission. 

The hybrid could combine updated 3.5-liter V-6 engine with
the battery-powered electric motor for a slightly improved total output.

2020 Kia Soul: Design, Specs, Options, Release

Kia used the 2018 Los Angeles Show to pull the wraps off the all-new Soul model. The redesigned compact hatchback starts the third generation as the 2020 Kia Soul. Kia still hides some specs like the mileage but revealed also some of the most important facts about the new Soul.

The new version ditches some trim options but will still offer the six levels of customization. The model again comes in EV version but remains with the front-wheel drive only. The better performance and handling will also arrive with the new-gen Soul but Kia improved also the passenger and cargo space. The model won’t also lack the modern tech and safety features and will also get attention with the distinctive and boxy style.

The new 2020 Kia Soul made the transition to the third generation on the new strengthened platform and with the redefined dimensions. The new Soul has 165.2 inches from bumper to bumper which is 2.5 inches more than on the previous generation. With the longer body goes also the 1.2-inch longer wheelbase which opens more interior comfort and cargo space.

From the visual perspective, the new Soul remains similarly shaped and instantly recognizable. However, the new styling elements and several tricks make it more appealing to the eye. The model sports the new, slim headlights and upper grille while also comes with the redesigned front bumper area. The front bumper has a bit of the sports flair while the EV version has fewer openings in that area and also comes on the unique five-spoke wheels.

The roof also adds to the appearance with the floating style and the rear has also the new, tall taillights design.

Interior, Equipment:

Inside the cabin, the new Soul boosts the cargo space for addition 5 cubes which now measures 23.8 cubic feet with the all seats up. The model keeps other interior dimensions largely unchanged.

The redesigned hatch also has the nice dash design with the center screen sized up to 10.25 inches and with Apple Car Play and Android Auto features. Kia will also offer the features like the wireless charging, automatic climate, 640 Wats sound system with 10 speakers, etc. The model will also provide the full set of the active safety systems. Watching and preventing collisions will be automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, lane keep control, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors and blind spot monitoring.

The all-new Soul will arrive in six trim levels. Kia promised LX, S, X-Line, GT-Line, EX, and EX Designer Collection options including also the EV variant. Full specs of the trims will appear closer to the market launch.

2020 Kia Soul: Performance

On the performance front, the new 2020 Kia Soul promises better driving characteristics thanks to the new, more rigid platform and improved suspension system. The model now relies on the fully independent rear suspension.

The propulsion for the non-electric version will provide inline-4 and turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The base power unit is a 2.0-liter inline-4 with the power and torque ratings at 147 hp and 132 pound-feet. This engine Kia will offer either 6-speed manual transmission or CVT. The turbo version also returns with the new-gen Soul. A 1.6-liter turbo-4 unit boosts the performance to 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. The GT-Line version will combine this engine with the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. No all-wheel drive for the redesigned Soul as some reports claimed earlier.

The electric Soul version comes with the 64-kWh lithium-ion battery pack which provides also the power for the Hyundai Kona EV and Kia Niro EV. The battery feeds the electric motor mounted on the front axle. The system makes 201 hp and torque of 291 pound-feet.

Kia says that battery needs 75 minutes for the 80 percent recharge with the fast-charging unit. The range of 100 miles should take 30 minutes of recharging. Kia hasn’t, however, revealed the mileage of the new EV version. The same battery provides 239 miles in the Niro EV.

The new 2020 Kia Soul will have the market launch in the middle of the next year. Kia will likely keep the full specs and equipment list in the dark until the market debut. The price will also appear closer to the on-sale date. The current version starts from $14, 490.

2020 Buick Encore: Redesign, Changes, Release

Buick is working on the new generation Encore model and the
latest spy photos are the proof. The brand’s smallest, subcompact crossover has
proven on the market and Buick will try to support its increasing sales with
the new design and features. The model was all-new in 2013 and after the
refresh for 2017, the 2020 Buick Encore will enter the second generation.

Buick hasn’t yet disclosed what changes the new Encore hides under the camo but we should expect extensive upgrades in all aspects. The model will arrive on the upgraded platform and with the new exterior and cabin design. The new tech and convenience features will also appear in the redesigned version. The next Encore should, however, return with the same engine displacement while pairing it with the new automatic transmission. The twined version of the Encore, the Opel Mokka X goes on sale in the overseas market.

Details about the redesigned 2020 Buick Encore are still
scarce and it isn’t yet clear what platform the model will use. The current GM
Gamma II Platform is shared with the current Mokka X and Chevy Trax and while
the new Mokka X will be based on PSA Group’s CMP small car platform, the new
Encore could borrow it under license or GM will use its underpinning for both
small Buick and Chevy models.

On the other hand, based on the spy photos, the new Encore
seems to have a slightly larger body which could also mean longer wheelbase and
more interior space. However, the new version will stay in the subcompact class
and therefore there won’t be big dimension changes.

The changes in model’s styling are also hard to identify. The rising beltline and slightly resculpted fender flares can be detected. Buick’s latest design language will define the styles of the grille and lighting units and they should be similar to what we can see on brand’s latest models. The tailgate seems also reshaped slightly and the roof line also looks slightly longer.

Interior, equipment:

Inside the cabin of the smallest Buick crossover, we should
expect the new center cluster and instrument panel. Buick will also employ new
materials and textures and improve seat comfort.

The new generation version will also come with the new
connectivity and upgraded driver aids. All versions will use the latest
infotainment system with smartphone support and the model will also equip
keyless entry and ignition, power driver seat, and more in the base version.
The upper grades will add more sophisticated materials and comfort features.
The active driver aids should appear in more trims and with upgraded features.

It is also possible the inclusion of the high-class Avenir trim with the unique exterior and interior details and top-notch materials and electronic aids.

In the engine department, the new 2020 Buick Encore should
repeat a 1.4-liter engine displacement. A turbocharged unit is available in two
outputs in the current version with the base model producing 138 hp and more
powerful generating 153 hp. However, Buick should replace the current 6-speed
automatic transmission with the new 9-gear setup with possible upgrades to the
performance and efficiency.

The model will arrive again with the front- and all-wheel
drive. The fuel economy should remain around 30 mpg combined.

2021 BMW X3 eDrive: News, Expectations, Release

The handsome and responsive-to-drive, mid-size, BMW X3 entered the third generation in late 2017 but BMW also defined the next step for this model. The electrification is among the priorities for the brands and BMW is working on the electric-powered X3 version. The new version of the popular X3 was previewed by the iX3 concept at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show and the launch date is expected sometime in 2020. The electric X3 will likely arrive as the part 2021 model year and unlike some expected to be marketed as the 2021 BMW X3 eDrive the model will go to the production under the i sub-brand and use the iX3 nomenclature.

The prototype of the future electric iX3 is already performing the out-door testing and it looks almost identical to the newest version of the conventionally-powered X3. The models will also share the most of the in-car technologies and interior design. The model will be sold globally and the production will take the place in China.

2021 BMW X3 eDrive

The 2021 BMW iX3 will use the new-generation eDrive platform that actually debuted on its Concept version but won’t go on sale as the 2021 BMW X3 eDrive as some expected. This platform will also be the base of many future vehicles from the brand and BMW is also working on the new-generation solid batteries for the electric models. However, these batteries won’t be here in time for this model but we should expect very good driving range despite that.

On the other hand, the styling of the model won’t be the large departure from the conventional version form. The prototype version spotted recently is almost identical to the current X3 and just a few details make the difference. The model has a conventional kidney grille but for the production version, we should expect enclosed variant like on the Concept vehicle.

BMW will also use slightly different bumpers and what will also define this model are the side charging port and the model will also lack the exhaust tips.

Interior, Equipment:

Inside, the iX3 will also use the same layout as the recently all-new, conventionally-powered X3 but BMW will add a few unique details.

The model will come with the high-end materials and in-car technologies. It will use the new-design instrument panel and the latest connectivity tech. BMW is also working on the self-driving technologies and in the time of coming this model will also integrate the achievements in that area.

2021 BMW X3 eDrive

As for the powertrain of the 2021 BMW X3 eDrive, it is too early to have precise details but the model won’t depart far from what BMW presented on the concept model.

The model will integrate the fifth-generation eDrive system but remains to see what performance it will be capable of. The newest eDrive version has separate components as will use the high-capacity batteries. BMW promise, its new-gen solid-state batteries would do more than 400 miles per charge but the iX3 should hit the roads before the arrival of these batteries.  The mileage would likely be in 200-range.

The Concept version had a 270-horsepower electric motor in the combination with the 70-kWh battery. BMW claimed the range of this setup to 250 miles and fast charging to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. The production version should be close to these numbers as well.

2020 Genesis GV80: News, Design, Release

Hyundai’s upmarket division Genesis has had the focus on the
sedan models so far but with the SUV sells booming the brand is now changing
the course in that direction. The Genesis GV80 Concept presented at the 2017
New York Auto Show hinted the arrival of the first SUV model from the brand and
the upcoming mid-size GV80 was spotted in the form which seems production
ready. The model should hit the market as the 2020 Genesis GV80 and go against
the established names in the industry like the BMW X5, Audi Q7, Mercedes GLE,
etc. The reports indicate also that Genesis has another smaller GV70 SUV in the
plan to compete in the segment with the BMW X3.

The brand’s new model should borrow sharp styling cues from the mentioned concept model while inside the cockpit we should expect a similar design as in the brand’s sedans.  The engine range should also mimic the powertrain options in the sedan lineup with the possible introduction of the new V-6 unit.

2020 Genesis GV80

The 2020 Genesis GV80 is still the unsolved mystery as
Geneses hides details about the model while we can draw some cues from the
prototype version.

First of all, it’s not known yet what platform the new
Genesis SUV will use. Judging by the spy photos the model is likely based on
the rear-wheel-drive architecture of the G80 sedan. Some sources suggest also
the stretched Santa Fe’s platform or the unit from the new Palisade model. Still,
the first scenario seems like the most probable.

On the other hand, the styling of the model seems to have
inhered the sharp design cues from the Concept version. The mesh grille seems
to have the similar design as on the GV80 Concept but slightly redefined
proportions. The horizontal oriented headlights follow also the pattern form
the concept car but with the enlarged dimensions and more conventional design.

Interior, equipment:

Inside the cabin, the mid-size Genesis SUV should use
similar design cues as the brand’s newest sedans. Still, the model will get a
unique steering wheel and reports claim also the new controllers for the
model. 

The GV80 will, of course, employ the high-quality materials combined with contrasting surfaces and trim details. The latest tech will be used and advanced safety systems like adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind spot monitors, etc.

As for the engine options, the new 3.6-liter V-6 could be in
the progress and arrive with the 2020 Genesis GV80. The model will offer both
rear-drive and four-wheel drive option and automatic transmission.

A 3.3-liter turbocharged V-6 engine used in the G80 should
also be the option. This engine makes 365 hp and torque of 376 lb-ft in the
sedan model. Other options from the sedan a 3.8-liter V6 and potent 420 hp

Audi’s subcompact Q3 crossover SUV gets attention with the
upmarket styling, extreme practicality and comfort, advanced technology and
punchy performance. A recently redesigned model goes against the big brands and
popular models including the BMW X1, Mercedes GLA, Jaguar E-Pace and Volvo
XC40.

The second-generation Q3 arrived on the new platform and

signature elements. The octagonal grille borrows the inspiration from the

bumper and attractive headlights.

The 2020 Audi Q3 will keep the things same regarding the

performance. The wider track and lower ride height will also serve to better
performance and stability and form more aggressive appearance. The model will

rear spoiler and oval exhaust tips will also define the RS Q3.

With the 3.0 inch longer wheelbase and 4.0 inches more in
overall lengths the new-generation Q3 provides more comfort and cargo room. The
cargo volume grew to 54 cubes with the rear seats stowed and to 16.7 cubes with
the functional rear row. The model provides also high-comfort and top-notch
tech features.

The subcompact crossover will offer leather and non-lather
upholstery, dual zone climate control, heated steering wheel, a sunroof and
many other luxury extras. The latest infotainment system with the smartphone
support and large 10.1-inch center screen will also be in the offer as well and
digitalized 10.3-inch instrument cluster.

The safety aspect will also employ the latest technologies including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking with the pedestrian and cyclist detection, surround vision and parking assist.

Audi limited the range of the engine options in the US to
the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine but it comes in two states of
tune. The base 2020 Audi Q3 will make 184 hp and torque of 236 lb-ft. An
upgrade of the engine will provide 228 hp and torque of 258 lb-ft.

The models will use an 8-speed automatic transmission and
Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Audi has no plans to offer a front-wheel drive
version as sad earlier.

The high-performance RS Q3 version will upgrade the
suspension and braking system while the engine should come from the RS 3. In
that application, a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-5 unit makes 400 hp and
torque of 354 pound-feet. With that, the RS Q3 should put the 60-mph run under
5 seconds.

the RS Q3 launch in 2020. The price should again start around $36, 000. 

2020 Cadillac XT4: Changes, Equipment, Specs, Price

With the all-new, XT4 small luxury SUV, Cadillac has the model to rival the subcompacts like the BMW X1, Lexus UX, and Audi Q3. But being larger and more expensive than these models the elegant, turbocharged, efficient and well-equipped XT4 can also be an alternative to the BMW X, Audi Q5, Mercedes GLC, etc.

The XT4 is a smaller brand’s SUV than the XT5 and with the distinctive styling but Cadillac is also testing the new flagship, three-row model which should debut early next year and comes as the Cadillac XT6.

On the other hand, the 2020 Cadillac XT4 will come with the several new color options and more standard equipment. The model might also offer another trim option.

The 2020 Cadillac XT4 version will just bring new color options and possibly new trim level.

Inside the cabin, the XT4 is also rich with the shapes on the dash and also comes with the high-quality materials. The modern tech is also the part of the package in every version but the XT4 also comes equipped with supportive seats and roomy rear row. The cargo capacity is up to 48.9 cubes while with the all seats up it offers 22.5 cubes.

The model will also offer the latest, large-sized touchscreen infotainment system with the smartphone features in every version. There will also be plenty of modern safety systems as the base equipment.

The base XT4 will deliver an 8-inch display, LED headlights, 18-inch wheels, power front seats, dual-zone climate control, etc. The blind-spot monitoring, a rearview camera will also be there by default. Cadillac might add more now optional advanced safety systems to the standard package for the new model year.

The model will offer adaptive cruise control, parking assistance, surround view cameras, high-speed emergency braking and more. The upper grades will also up the ante with the higher quality materials, heated and cooled front seats, heated steering wheel, larger wheels and more.

The 2020 Cadillac XT4 will remain powered by responsive and efficient turbo-4 engine. The pair with the engine is a smooth 9-speed automatic transmission while the all-wheel drive will come at extra $2, 500.

The refined and smooth 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine will provide 237 horsepower and torque of 258 pound-feet. It will deliver smooth acceleration and competitive fuel efficiency.

The two-wheel-drive models will provide 24 mpg city and 30 mpg highways. With the four-wheel power, the XT4 will return 22/29 mpg city/highway.

2019 BMW X6: Redesign, Changes, Price

BMW replaced the very popular but aging X5 with the new-generation model recently and now moving the focus to the coupe-like styled X6. The Sports Activity Coupe X6 was recently spotted testing in the disguised form but the model looks to be in the final production body and the version spotted seems to be the hot M50i.

Well, BMW hasn’t revealed details but the new third-generation X6 will unsurprisingly follow the suite of the recently redesigned X5. So, with the slightly restyled exterior, the new-gen X6 will benefit from the new architecture, updated engines, new interior, and tech. The model should appear sometime in mid-2019 and could even debut as the 2019 BMW X6 or more likely the 2020 model.

As it is the case with the current generation, the new 2019 BMW X6 will build on the X5 model and add more excitement to the look with the coupe-like roofline. The spotted prototype of the new-generation X6 has a more athletic body and borrow from both the X5 and X4 models.

Up front, we can detect a larger kidney grille version like on the new X5 and both headlights and taillights are thinner and more modern. The more dynamic front end comes in the combination with the X4-inspired tailgate and attractive coupe roof style. The waistline and the rest of the bodywork looks similar to the new X5.

With the slightly revised exterior style, the X6 like the all-new X5 will switch to the new architecture and should also grow in size. The new-gen X5 gained inches in all directions and the wheelbase is also 1.6 inches longer. The similar treatment is expected for the sportier X6.

The interior of the new X6 wasn’t yet in front of the spy camera but the cabin of the redesigned X5 surely gives us a clear picture about its look. The new-gen model will get the redesigned dash and center console alongside the higher quality materials.

The model will also follow the X5 regarding the available equipment. By default, there will be the digital instrument cluster and large center display. The newest iDrive operating system will also be integrated as well as the best of the active safety technologies.

When it comes to the engine options, the 2019 BMW X6 won’t also be the different story from the new X5. With the new architecture, the model will also introduce the updated engines.

The entry level will be the 40i model with the inline-6 engine. The 3.0-liter turbo unit will deliver around 335 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque like in the redesigned X5. The new X6 will again offer the buyers with the six-cylinder option and the 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbocharged V-8 will make around 456 hp and torque up to 479 lb-ft.

The 8-speed automatic will transfer power to the all-wheel-drive system. Expect also the 60-mph run in about 5.3 seconds with the six-cylinder engine and around 4.6 seconds with the V-8.

The redesigned, second generation 2020 Range Rover Evoque started the transformation with the new platform and body structure. The Premium Transverse Architecture is intended for brand’s smaller models with the goal of providing better electrification and performance. The new platform is the mixed-material construction with the high strength and regular steel, aluminum and magnesium in the mix. The new design opens the door for the mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid technologies as well as for the Ingenium family of engines.

With the new underpinning, the redesigned Evoque also sports the sleeker Velar-inspired look and a 90 percent of the body structure is also new. The new body is placed on 0.8 inches longer wheelbase. This translates to more rear legroom but with the shorter overhangs, the model is actually slightly shorter.

Styling:

The look of the new Evoque is the evolution of the current design with the obvious similarities with the Velar SUV. The same basic look remains in the combination with the sloping roofline and high beltline. The models gained, however, the new grille and headlights and redesigned lower openings. The slim grille version has the honeycomb pattern and comes with the narrow, nicely accentuated headlights.

The model has also the smooth body lines and flush door handles. The sculpted fenders add a bit of the contrast to the flat panels. The rear side is also fresh with the new two-piece taillights.

The brand will offer the new Evoque with nice contrasting body painting options and wheel sizes ranging from 17- 21 inches.

Interior, equipment:

The interior of the new Evoque comes with the improved comfort and the latest technologies. The stretched wheelbase opens more space for the rear passengers and the new seats also boost the comfort. With the increased passenger comfort, the new Evoque improved also the cargo area to 50.5 cubic feet.

The handsome look of the model is matched with the high-quality materials and rich textures inside the cabin. The model also gained the Touch Pro Duo touchscreen system with the pair of 10.2-inch screens which debuted in the Velar model. The Evoque provides also Apple Car Play and Android Auto support. In front of the driver is a 12.-3 digital instrument cluster and there is also the head-up display projecting the information on the windshield.  The newly added ground view camera also provides the picture of what is underneath and ahead of the front wheels.

2020 Range Rover Evoque: Powertrains

The power for the new 2020 Range Rover Evoque comes from the two powertrain options in the US while the diesel options will appear on the Old Continent.

The base Evoque will use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Ingenium engine. The unit makes 246 hp and torque of 369 lb-ft compared to the previous version 237 hp and torque of 251 lb-ft. In the combination with the engine is a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

The option will be a P300 version with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The power it provides is 296 hp and the MHEV system. Using also the 14.7-hp belt-integrated generator it provides 6 percent improved efficiency and improved torque response.

JLR hasn’t confirmed yet the plug-in hybrid powertrain for the US which will appear in Europe next year. The system will integrate the 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with the power output of 197 hp in the combination with the starter generator and electric motor. The 40.2-hp generator will power the front wheels while the 106-hp electric motor will spin the rear wheels and get the power from the 11.3- kWh battery.

The model also features the new-generation all-wheel-drive system which can transfer the power between the rear wheels simulating the torque vectoring and can also lock the rear wheels. The Terrain Select 2 system will also be available with the modes for Sand, Mud, Snow, Eco, etc. The SUV boasts also lifted ground clearance. The 8.3 inches of the ground clearance comes with the 20-degree approach and 30-degree departure angles while can go through the 23.6-inch deep water.

The 2020 Range Rover Evoque will go on sale in the US next year after the debut at the next Chicago Auto Show. We will know the price after the debut but it should go slightly up from the current base $42, 000.

2020 Honda Passport: Design, Specs, Equipment, Price

Honda has recently revived the Passport nameplate and the model takes the form of the two-row crossover SUV with the “soft off-road” capability and plenty of interior space. The Passport model fills the gap between the compact CR-V and mid-size Pilot in the brand’s formidable crossover SUV range. The model shares plenty of style, interior features and mechanics with the Pilot SUV and the production takes place at the factory in Lincoln, Alabama where the three-row Pilot is being assembled as well.

Honda will offer the 2020 Honda Passport with the single engine option like the mid-size Pilot and the range of trims will also be familiar. The two-row Passport will go on sale in four trims including Sport, EX-L, Touring ould and Elite. The model will provide the same towing capability as the larger Pilot while will be more capable for the off-road adventures. There will also be the latest tech and safety systems and several premium features.

The 2020 Honda Passport shares the platform with the Pilot SUV and Ridgeline pickup and the model uses also the similar mechanic elements.

The Passport is, however, sized for the transportation of up to five people and provides plenty of cargo thanks to the clever interior design. The model measures 190,5 inches from bumper to bumper while rides on the 111-inch wheelbase. The wheelbase is identical to that of the larger Pilot but the Passport is 6 inches shorter while has a 10-inch longer footprint than the compact CR-V.

Form the visual perspective, the model looks like the shrunken Pilot with the similar shape and styling elements. The shape of the grille and the headlights are similar to the latest vehicles from Honda. The Passport has also nice creases on the hood and dynamic character line on the side panels.

The model improves also the off-road capability with the lifted ride height and taller wheel arches than the larger Pilot. The Passport has the ride height of 8.4 inches and boasts also the better approach and departure angles than the larger cousin. The approach angle is 21,4 degrees and departure 27, 6 inches.

Interior, Equipment:

Inside the cabin, the Passport uses the design familiar from the larger Pilot and offer a similar equipment range. The same wheelbase as the three-row Pilot provides, however, competitive passenger and cargo space.  With the all five seats in function, the model provides 41,2 cubes of the cargo room while with no passengers in the rear row the capacity shrinks to 100 cubes. The model has also a number of storage compartments and plenty of the legroom in both rows.

As for the available equipment, the base model starts with the cloth upholstery, LED headlights, keyless ignition, etc. The standard equipment includes also the 7-inch TFT instrument cluster display, a 5-inch center screen, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, etc. The EX-L adds an 8-inch touchscreen with the smartphone support, leather upholstery, power tailgate, heated front seats, etc. The Touring improves with the heated rear seats, wi-fi hotspot, parking sensors, etc. The range-topping version has the cooled seats, heated steering wheel, unique trim accents and more.

Honda makes also the Passport safer with the standard systems like the adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, active lane control and lane departure warning. The blind-spot monitoring becomes the standard equipment in the EX-L and upper grades.

The 2020 Honda Passport adopts the Pilot-based underpinning and the same engine as well. A 3.5-liter V-6 makes 280 hp and torque of 262 pound-feet. The 9-speed automatic transmission sends the power to the front wheel by default. The available four-wheel drive and improved ride height compared to the three-row Pilot and combined with the shorter overhangs boost the off-road capability over the Pilot’s but the Passport remains the soft off-roader.

The Passport will also provide the good towing capability. The same platform and mechanics mean the same towing ratings as the Pilot SUV. The front-wheel-drive Passport allows up to 3, 500 pounds of towing. With the power on all wheels, the model can tow up to 5, 000 pounds.

Honda hasn’t revealed the price of the 2020 Honda Passport but we should expect the starting point just under $30, 000. The on-sale date will be early next year.
