2020 Subaru Ascent: Changes, Design, Performance, Price

With the all-new Subaru Ascent for the 2019 model year, Subaru has again a three-row, mid-size SUV for its loyal baryes after the Tribeca retirement. The new model can seat up to eight and comes equipped with modern safety and infotainment tech from the base model. With the mid-size Ascent, the big families can also tow up to 5, 000 pounds and power provides the new turbo-4 engine.

The new version of the largest Subaru comes as the 2020 Subaru Ascent and except no major modifications. The model will offer new color and wheel options and new packages. It will return in base, Premium, Limited and Touring trim levels.

There won’t be big news for the 2020 Subaru Ascent regarding its design and structure. The all-new Ascent based on the brand’s new global architecture is here for the 2019 model year and it will continue the journey in the same form and style.

The Ascent applies brands latest design language defined with the large signature grille and familiar headlights. It has a tall hood and defined line on the profile that stretching over fenders and door handles. The arched side window line and roof-mounted spoiler reduce the boxy shape and the rear also has nice taillights and trim chrome slat connecting them.

The 2020 Subaru Ascent will repeat the same style and offer several new colors and wheel options.

Interior, equipment:

The Ascent has the mission of transporting big families and their cargo and its interior is designed with that in mind. The model offers seven and eight seat configurations. The max cargo space is up to 82.5 cubes. With all seats in function, it offers 19.9 cubes while without the rearmost row 47.6 cubes are available.

The dash design is functional and with easy-to-use controls. The base version will have a 6.5-inch infotainment interface and also come with the cloth upholstery, tri-zone auto climate control, smartphone support features but also EyeSight package of advanced safety systems.

The next level trim will improve with an 8-inch touchscreen, leather-wrapped steering wheel, Wi-Fi hotspot, heated front seats and available will also be blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, etc.

The Limited version will add the leather upholstery, keyless entry and ignition, adaptive LED headlights, 20-inch wheels and more. The top Touting model upgrades with the woodgrain pieces, a moonroof, heated front two row and cooled front seats, rain-sensing wipers, a smart rearview mirror, front camera and more.

No signs that Subaru will add the new engine option for the 2020 Subaru Ascent. The three-row SUV will have a 2.4-liter turbo-4 engine under the hood coupled with the continuously variable transmission. The power output will stay at 260 horsepower and torque at 277 pound-feet.

The Ascent is the all-wheel drive by default. The model can tow up to 5, 000 pounds and Subaru claims 60 mph in 7.4 seconds. The model will return about 21 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.

The ride height of 8.7 inches and electronically controlled and capable all-wheel-drive system will provide strong performance behind the beaten paths but the model isn’t designed for the serious off-roading.

Ford’s premium sub-brand has been in the offensive with the new and updated models since the introduction of the Continental sedan. But the brand has also the focus on its SUV range and has been in the process of the improving, introducing and renaming the high-riding models. The Lincoln Nautilus, mid-size, two-row crossover is the new nameplate, styling, improved efficiency and safety of the Edge-based and previously named MKX model. The restyled and renamed model was the part of the mid-update of the Lincoln MKX.

For the 2020 Lincoln Nautilus, the things will remain the same as now. Lincoln won’t come with the major modifications after the recent update and the model will offer the same options as well. The Nautilus crossover will return with the fresh styling and two turbocharged power units. It will also offer nicely-styled and well-equipped cabins.

The 2020 Lincoln Nautilus will continue to live on the recent styling updates and on the same structure. The Continental and Navigator-inspired styling was adopted on the same Edge-based structure and greenhouse of the MKX model. In the transition, the model ditched the wing-style grille as well and added the new headlights again with the similar design as the units on the Continental sedan.

The profile remained the same after the mid-update and renaming while the rear also adopted the refreshed design.

The 2020 Nautilus will also continue with the same interior as on the current version. The recent update brought some material and texture upgrades but the cabin isn’t the large departure from the MKX model. The cargo capacity is same as under the previous nameplate. The max cargo room is 68.3 cubic feet and with the second row in the function it is 37.2 cubes at the disposal.

The next Nautilus will also return the familiar trim levels. The Sync3 infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto will keep you connected and manage controls. The model will also come with the digitalized 12.3-inch instrument cluster among the options as well with the 19-Speaker Revel sound system, 22-way adjustable seats, and plenty of the safety equipment.  Available will be the systems like the adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and keep assist, blind spot monitors, automatic emergency braking, etc.

To the new decade, the 2020 Lincoln Nautilus will continue with turbocharged units from the current version.

The crossover will have a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine as the base power unit. The engine is the pair with the standard 8-speed automatic transmission. The power it delivers will be 245 hp and torque 280 pound-feet.

The fuel efficiency for this power combo will be 23 mpg combined with two-wheel drive and 22 mpg combined with the power on all wheels.

The next level of performance will provide a 2.7-liter bi-turbo V-6. The number of the gears is the same as on the base version while the all-wheel drive is mandatory. But the power and torque ratings will be at 335 hp and 380 pound-feet while the fuel economy around 21 mpg combined.

2020 Audi Q5: Plug-in hybrid, Changes, Release

Audi’s luxury, mid-size Q5 crossover SUV has become one of the brand’s bestsellers and Audi has a great interest to keep this model fresh and in the line with the future trends. The model was all-new for the 2018 model year and it arrived on the new chassis, larger, more technologically advanced and with the evolved styling.

The Audi Q5 is high-comfort SUV and delivers great ride quality as well backed by the turbocharged power. The 2020 Audi Q5 should, however, up the ante with the next generation plug-in hybrid powertrain and the RS Q5 version could also appear according to some sources. Audi will also revisit the equipment offer while there won’t be major styling and interior upgrades.

The big news for the 2020 Audi Q5 is the introduction of the new generation plug-in hybrid powertrain which Audi will use in other models but the debut of the system will be with the arrival of the next Q5.

The new plug-in system will employ the brand’s 2.0-liter inline-4 engine in the combination with the electric motor mounted at the rear. The system will provide the all-wheel drive with the combustion engine powering the front wheels while the electric motor provides the spin for the rear wheels.

The total output of the system should be around 296 horsepower with the max torque around 457 pound-feet. The new setup should boost the range over 40 miles.

The 2020 version will also return with the 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine in the base version. Paired to the 8-speed automatic gearbox and standard all-wheel-drive system, the engine will provide 252 hp and torque of 273 pound-feet. This combo will return 25 mpg combined fuel economy.

The SQ5 version will have a 3.0-liter V-6 turbo under the hood. The 8-speed transmission and all-wheel drive will be in the conjunction with the sport-tuned suspension and styling cues. The model will provide 354 hp and torque of 369 pound-feet.

The RS Q5 version is also possible but could wait for the later model years. The engine solution for this version would be a 2.9-liter bi-turbo V-6 with the power around 450 hp and 442 pound-feet of torque.

The 2020 Audi Q5 won’t change the way it looks and the new generation isn’t the large departure from the previous version.

2020 Genesis GV80: News, Design, Release

Hyundai’s upmarket division Genesis has had the focus on the
sedan models so far but with the SUV sells booming the brand is now changing
the course in that direction. The Genesis GV80 Concept presented at the 2017
New York Auto Show hinted the arrival of the first SUV model from the brand and
the upcoming mid-size GV80 was spotted in the form which seems production
ready. The model should hit the market as the 2020 Genesis GV80 and go against
the established names in the industry like the BMW X5, Audi Q7, Mercedes GLE,
etc. The reports indicate also that Genesis has another smaller GV70 SUV in the
plan to compete in the segment with the BMW X3.

The brand’s new model should borrow sharp styling cues from the mentioned concept model while inside the cockpit we should expect a similar design as in the brand’s sedans.  The engine range should also mimic the powertrain options in the sedan lineup with the possible introduction of the new V-6 unit.

The 2020 Genesis GV80 is still the unsolved mystery as
Geneses hides details about the model while we can draw some cues from the
prototype version.

First of all, it’s not known yet what platform the new
Genesis SUV will use. Judging by the spy photos the model is likely based on
the rear-wheel-drive architecture of the G80 sedan. Some sources suggest also
the stretched Santa Fe’s platform or the unit from the new Palisade model. Still,
the first scenario seems like the most probable.

On the other hand, the styling of the model seems to have
inhered the sharp design cues from the Concept version. The mesh grille seems
to have the similar design as on the GV80 Concept but slightly redefined
proportions. The horizontal oriented headlights follow also the pattern form
the concept car but with the enlarged dimensions and more conventional design.

Inside the cabin, the mid-size Genesis SUV should use
similar design cues as the brand’s newest sedans. Still, the model will get a
unique steering wheel and reports claim also the new controllers for the
model. 

The GV80 will, of course, employ the high-quality materials combined with contrasting surfaces and trim details. The latest tech will be used and advanced safety systems like adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind spot monitors, etc.

the progress and arrive with the 2020 Genesis GV80. The model will offer both

also be the option. This engine makes 365 hp and torque of 376 lb-ft in the
sedan model. Other options from the sedan a 3.8-liter V6 and potent 420 hp

The model offers seats for up to eight and among the best-in-class rear seat legroom. Thanks to the longer body and 4 inches longer wheelbase, the Palisade provides more than 40 inches of the rear seat leg room and 31.4 inches of the leg room for the third-row passengers. The cargo space is also increased to 18 cubes with the all seats up and 45.8 cubes with the third-row fold flat.

The Palisade comes also with the driver-oriented dash design and provides two cup holders per passenger. The model includes also eight USBs, 10.3-inches infotainment screen, 12.3-inches digital instrument cluster, smartphone compatibility features, wireless charging, etc.

The safety is also following the trends in the industry. The three-row Palisade comes equipped with the adaptive cruise control, lane centering, automatic emergency braking, child lock, etc.

2019 BMW X1: Refreshed, Changes, Price

BMW’s first in the lineup and fun to drive crossover, the X1 has been around since the 2016 model year in its second generation. With the fierce competition from Audi and Mercedes, BMW must keep the model fresh and the firm was spotted while testing the updated X1. The model will go on sale at some point in 2019 while should show what it has to offer later this year.

The 2019 BMW X1 will bring some visual upgrades, not radical judging by what we can conclude from the prototype version. Some updates will also be inside the cabin including the materials and tech while we don’t have details about what BMW has in mind regarding the powertrains.

The small package crossover won’t bring radical styling changes with the next refresh. The front side of the model seems to have sleeker kidney grille version bracketed by the new design headlights. The headlight graphics look like on brand’s latest models and the front bumper has slightly different sculpting as well.

No details yet about BMW’s intents regarding the powertrain and potential upgrades. In the US the X1 packs the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with the 8-speed automatic transmission. The two- and four-drive are both available while the model returns around 25 mpg combined fuel economy.

With the capability of delivering 228 hp and 258 lb-ft combined with the precise steering and suspension, the model provides great driving dynamics but BMW will surely try to draw more from the refreshed 2019 BMW X1. So, we should expect some efficiency and performance improvements.

The plug-in hybrid version of this model is also expected sometime in the near future but not for the upcoming model year.

After the investment of about $1.3 billion and hours of testing and designing, JLR has brought the all-new Evoque in front of the public. The brand’s fast-selling and smallest SUV benefits from the improvements on all fronts but still remains recognizable form.

The second-generation 2020 Range Rover Evoque comes on the new platform and with the almost all-new body structure. The model improves also the interior comfort combining it with the top-notch tech and safety technologies. The look is also sleeker and more elegant while there are also more efficient and powerful powertrains.

The redesigned, second generation 2020 Range Rover Evoque started the transformation with the new platform and body structure. The Premium Transverse Architecture is intended for brand’s smaller models with the goal of providing better electrification and performance. The new design opens the door for the mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid technologies as well as for the Ingenium family of engines.

With the new underpinning, the redesigned Evoque also sports the sleeker Velar-inspired look and a 90 percent of the body structure is also new. The new body is placed on 0.8 inches longer wheelbase. This translates to more rear legroom but with the shorter overhangs, the model is actually slightly shorter.

Styling:

The look of the new Evoque is the evolution of the current design with the obvious similarities with the Velar SUV. The same basic look remains in the combination with the sloping roofline and high beltline. The models gained, however, the new grille and headlights and redesigned lower openings. The slim grille version has the honeycomb pattern and comes with the narrow, nicely accentuated headlights.

The model has also the smooth body lines and flush door handles. The sculpted fenders add a bit of the contrast to the flat panels. The rear side is also fresh with the new two-piece taillights.

The brand will offer the new Evoque with nice contrasting body painting options and wheel sizes ranging from 17- 21 inches.

The interior of the new Evoque comes with the improved comfort and the latest technologies. The stretched wheelbase opens more space for the rear passengers and the new seats also boost the comfort. With the increased passenger comfort, the new Evoque improved also the cargo area to 50.5 cubic feet.

The handsome look of the model is matched with the high-quality materials and rich textures inside the cabin. The model also gained the Touch Pro Duo touchscreen system with the pair of 10.2-inch screens which debuted in the Velar model. The Evoque provides also Apple Car Play and Android Auto support. In front of the driver is a 12.-3 digital instrument cluster and there is also the head-up display projecting the information on the windshield.  The newly added ground view camera also provides the picture of what is underneath and ahead of the front wheels.

The power for the new 2020 Range Rover Evoque comes from the two powertrain options in the US while the diesel options will appear on the Old Continent.

The base Evoque will use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Ingenium engine. The unit makes 246 hp and torque of 369 lb-ft compared to the previous version 237 hp and torque of 251 lb-ft. In the combination with the engine is a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

The option will be a P300 version with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The power it provides is 296 hp and the MHEV system. Using also the 14.7-hp belt-integrated generator it provides 6 percent improved efficiency and improved torque response.

JLR hasn’t confirmed yet the plug-in hybrid powertrain for the US which will appear in Europe next year. The system will integrate the 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with the power output of 197 hp in the combination with the starter generator and electric motor. The 40.2-hp generator will power the front wheels while the 106-hp electric motor will spin the rear wheels and get the power from the 11.3- kWh battery.

The model also features the new-generation all-wheel-drive system which can transfer the power between the rear wheels simulating the torque vectoring and can also lock the rear wheels. The Terrain Select 2 system will also be available with the modes for Sand, Mud, Snow, Eco, etc. The SUV boasts also lifted ground clearance. The 8.3 inches of the ground clearance comes with the 20-degree approach and 30-degree departure angles while can go through the 23.6-inch deep water.

The iconic, off-road capable Mercedes G-Class has finally
got the first full redesign in the decades-long run. The new version arrived as
the 2019 model and while Mercedes retained the familiar presence of the model
the comprehensive upgrades in all aspects brought the model to the modern era.

The newest G-Wagen is larger and got serious interior
updates. The model switched also to the new underpinning for more ride comfort
on the paved roads while Mercers claims also enhanced off-road capability.  The new-gen G-Class has also the new
transmission unit and two versions of the twin-turbo V-8 engine provide
enormous power and torque in the base and AMG-branded versions. The unique SUV
employs also plenty of other hardcore hardware and systems for the off-road
challenges but equips also modern tech features.

For the new model year and the 2020 Mercedes-Benz G-Class version, the brand won’t come up many changes. The new version could appear with the unique exterior and interior pieces and Mercedes will likely offer the new body color and package options.

Mercedes redesigned the G-Wagen model from the ground up but hasn’t gambled with the look of the model. The new generation version remains the tall, slab-sided SUV but the model has more elegant lines and bears the new grille version in the combination with the new headlights.

More importantly, the body-on-frame SUV gained some
structural upgrades and while 154 pounds lighter the model has a 34 percent
stiffer frame.  With the new
double-wishbone, independent suspension replaced the solid front axle the model
provides also better on-road comfort while won’t lack the off-road capacity.

For the 2020 Mercedes-Benz G-Class version, Mercedes will
likely offer new body shades and new special edition version. There won’t be significant
changes after the recent redesign.

Interior, Equipment:

Inside the cabin, the boxy SUV is a huge step forward in
both comforts and modern tech availability. The new generation G-Glass is both
longer and wider and gained 5.9 inches of additional rear seat legroom.

Mercedes equipped also the military-DNA SUV with the premium
comfort and tech features and the next version won’t bring many new details in
that regard.

The off-road adventures and the everyday ride will be easier thanks to the available leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control, multi-contour seats with massage capability, a Burmester premium sound system etc. The model will also get a standard infotainment system with a 12.4-inch touchscreen and optional digital gauge cluster. There will also be the modern safety systems like the lane keeping control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, park assist, etc.

For the power delivery, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz G-Class will
employ two bi-turbo V-8 engines. The base 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine will
provide 416 horsepower and torque of 450 lb-ft. Teamed with the 9-speed
automatic transmission and four-wheel drive, this version will hit 60 mph in
5.8 seconds.

The AMG G63 version will boost the performance of the V-8
engine to 577 hp and peak torque of 627 lb-ft. With that potential under the
hood, this version will reduce the 60mph-run to 4.4 seconds.

With the independent front suspension, electric power
steering and available adaptive damping, the G-Class SUV will also ride well on
the paved roads. For the off-road adventure, the model will have the help of
the 4Matic all-wheel drive with low-range gearing and three locking
differentials. Different driving modes and impressive ride height combined with
high approach and departure angles will also provide skills for the hardcore
off-roading.

The weaves of new SUVs continue to splash each Auto Show but the new prototypes of the high-riding models are constantly being seen on the roads as well.  Audi has recently been spotted testing the refreshed Q7 model but the all-new model with the “four rings” is also in the works. After the recent introduction of the flagship Q8 model, Audi will bring the new, smaller example of the Q-range in the showrooms for the 2020 model year. The 2020 Audi Q4 is set to take place between the Q3 and Q5 models in brand’s range of SUVs and will be the rival for models like the BMW X4 and Mercedes GLC coupe.

The new Q4 model will be the couple-like derivative of the Q3 and two models will share the platform, engines and equipment. The model will offer a number of powertrain options depending on the market and eventually get the PHEV variant during the life cycle. The new coupe style crossover will also get the latest tech and safety gear.

Audi hinted the arrival of the Q4 model with the TT Off-Road Concept at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show and a recently caught prototype of the model seems to have the production-ready form. The new Q-range Audi should hit the market as the 2020 model and it should borrow heavily from the Q3 version.

Although we heard from Audi that the Q4 won’t just be the coupe version of the Q3 yet more distinctive model, two models will share ubiquitous MQB platform much of the gear. The Q4 could, however, ride on the slightly longer wheelbase than the Q3.

As for the styling, the prototype version reveals more angular shape than on the Q3 with the coupe-style profile. The front section includes familiar, single-frame grille and pair of the Led headlights with the shape similar to what we can see on the Q3 model.

Thanks to the fast-sloping roofline the model looks more aggressive from the profile than the conventional shaped Q3 and a more sculpted tailgate add also to the sportier appearance.

Interior, Equipment:

Behind the steering wheel, the new Q4 should also borrow heavily from the Q3 and recent brand’s models. The horizontally oriented lines and shapes combined with the electronic devices will dominate on the dash. Audi will also employ high-end materials, aluminum and wood trim to improve the look and feel of the interior.

The model will also arrive with the latest tech and safety achievements and convenience upgrades. The new Q-range Audi will adopt the brand’s latest 9.2-inch infotainment display as well as the 10.25-inch instrument cluster. Audi will also equip the new coupe-like crossover with the advanced safety technologies and systems like adaptive cruise control, active lane assists and blind spot monitors.

2020 Audi Q4: Powertrains

Power for the new 2020 Audi Q4 should come from the various engine options depending on the market. The MQB platform allows also the PHEV powertrain application but it remains the possibility in the latter phase of the life cycle.

The model will utilize the new generation 1.5-liter four-cylinder TSI engines with two outputs around 128 and 148 hp respectively. The upgraded 2.0-liter TDI diesels will also appear on the Old Continent and should produce 148 and 187 hp.

The version for the US will likely adopt single 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The high-performance RS Q4 version should also feature and use a 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo engine with the power around 400 hp.

The 2019 Lexus RX 350 will have the same engine under the hood and the RX 450h model will use the electrified powertrain.

A 3.5-liter V-6 runs on a more efficient combustion cycle and makes 295 hp. The max torque is 269 lb-ft. The engine is in the combination with the 8-speed automatic transmission and R Sport model adds paddle shifters and a sport-tuned suspension. The front and all-wheel drive and different drive modes are also available.

The buyers can also switch to the hybrid RX 450 version which adds the batteries and electric motors to the lower-output V-6 engine. The non-hybrid RX model provides 26 mpg combined with the all-wheel drive. The hybrid model with the standard all-wheel drive improves to 30 mpg combined.
