Everything Will Never Get Done, and That's Okay!

No matter what your position in life you probably have a stack of things piled up that you need to do or wanted to get done by the end of the day, week, month, or even year.  I know that as a stay at home mom, blogger, and full time student, I always have an ongoing pile of stuff to do and multiple lists.

I have lists of things that need cleaned and organized, house projects that need done, normal household chores, a huge list of crafts that I want to one day get around to, 4 empty scrapbooks just waiting to be done, blog posts waiting to be written, homework to be done, and of course goals to spend quality time with the kids and my husband.

There is no way that one person can get everything done, all of the time.  Period!

I was reading comments on another blogger's Facebook post (sorry I can't remember who) and one of the comments was that all they wanted to do was get back into doing crafts and they haven't been able to since they had their child.  I totally understand this statement.

I am one of those people who have a hard time putting all of the other stuff on hold to do something I really enjoy doing.  The problem with this is that I end up starting multiple lists at a time and projects and really never get anything accomplished because I am stressed out about getting everything done.  I normally have half finished laundry, half done crafts, and rooms that are half cleaned before I remember I had already started something else!

I haven't been able to do any crafts lately because I have had just too much to do.  Yesterday I decided I was finally going to try painting on pallet wood because I have been wanting to do it for about 6 months and keep putting it off.  The only reason that I had time to do this was because I didn't do laundry or anything else that needed done.

Last night I let Z stay up late tonight and we went on a lightning bug hunt.  The look on his face after catching 5 of them was worth me having to decide to either put off the dishes until the next day or stay up late and do them.  I decided I will do them tomorrow!

Sometimes doing what makes you happy is all that is needed to make you feel like you accomplished something.  I know that for me, being happy equals being more productive.  Because I took that extra time to do the things that I wanted to, the rest of the week I will feel refreshed and more relaxed, which for me means more productive on the need-to-do lists.

I constantly have to remind myself of this and not set my daily expectations higher than I could ever meet.  I am trying to be more conscious of the things I did accomplish rather than the things that I didn't.

Don't let anybody else tell you what is the most important thing for your to do or that the dishes always need to be done before you have fun.  Sometimes you just need to do it for you, and THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!

We only have one life, try to do the things you enjoy as much as possible.

Rice Sensory Bin

We decided to make a sensory bin because we had never had one before and I wanted to know what all the hype was about!  We also hadn't even dyed rice different colors so I figured it was about time!

First we dyed the rice.  We did 1 cup of rice to 1 Tbs of vinegar and added food coloring until we got the color we wanted.  Then we laid out the colored rice on wax paper to dry.  I mixed them up every once in awhile to make them dry evenly.  It took a few hours and they still held the vinegar smell so I left the lid off of the sensory bins until the smell went away.

Library Fun!

Since we moved back to VA I haven't been to the library once!  It had been over a year and way too long!  I figured I would check online to find some good books for the kids and as soon as I tried to log in I got a big warning that said my library card was in delinquent status!

In my head I'm imagining hundreds of dollars in fines and I finally find the amount and its $2.35!  So we took a trip to the library, paid my fine, and renewed my card!  I was even able to get Z his own library card, how fun is that?!

Summer Fun!

We had a great weekend and we have been working hard on our Summer Bucket List.  I have been told by a few people this weekend that the name implies it is a list of things to be done before we die, even though I had originally thought of a bucket list as a list of things to do before the end of a certain time frame such as summer.

Well because now this morbid implication is in my head, we are now calling it our Summer Fun List!

We were busy this weekend crossing things off of our list!  We went to a new park on Thursday night and to the bay on Friday and played in the sand.

We went to a cookout on Saturday that would have been rained out, but instead we played in the rain!

And we bought some kid-type fireworks and sparklers on the way home and Z got to do sparklers for the first time!

All in all, we had a pretty great weekend!  Are you working on a summer fun list?  Have you started yet?

Black Bean Salsa and Chicken Quesadilla

I had never even tried black beans let alone use them in anything until I went to a cookout at my sister's.  She made a delicious black bean salsa. I went to the store the next day and got some ingredients that I thought would be good, and it is!  I am addicted, so here it goes!

Summer Bucket List

I have come across many bucket lists over the past few weeks and decided it was time to make our own!  I had some ideas of things we have been talking about doing and looked through multiple other bucket lists to get additional ideas. I ended up with 55 bucket list items!  Some of the items are duplicates if I wanted to do them more than once, such as go to a different park.

I decided the best way to keep the list handy and ready to use was to use a bulletin board that I picked up at a yard sale.

I printed out the list and Z helped me cut them all out. I cut out different colored construction paper and glued each thing to a piece. We used thumb tacks to stick them on the board.

Ta-Da!  We have a summer bucket list and as we do the items we will put an X over the item and if we make it through everything we can go back through and redo our favorites!
