Buttermilk Pancakes

These are absolutely the BEST pancakes ever! I got the recipe from a friend in Minnesota when I lived there and have been making it ever since. I am not a big fan if pancakes, but I guess I just never had GOOD pancakes! You can do variations by adding fruit or using pumpkin instead of the 2 extra TBS of milk. I also like to double the batch and freeze them. These are always a hit at our house, especially when served with sausage!

Spring Cleaning and Organizing

I have never been one to enjoy cleaning and normally avoid it at all costs, but lately I have been getting very frustrated with the house always being cluttered and messy. I have never not had a cluttered home because I tend to keep everything and never have a place for anything! I have been working on getting my house in order.

Oh the Tantrums!

Oh these 4 year old's tantrums are driving me nuts!  He has been having them multiple times a day over everything from the baby taking his toy to not wanting to eat dinner.  I have decided that for my sanity I am done and I am going to get strict.

For awhile I was really good at ignoring him when he threw them and just walking away, but I started responding to them way too much when I had the baby.  I think I respond more because I have 2 babies  who are talking, or crying, or screaming all at the same time and I just want it to stop.  Or maybe it is because he is so loud when he throws his fits that if the baby is sleeping he wakes him up.

Beach Rock Jar

I acquired a few glass jars that had originally held candles.  These jars are pretty neat and I used 2 of them in a creation for March Package Pals and I had one left.

After our trip to the Beach I needed to do something with all of these neat beach rocks and I needed somewhere to store them because I foresee tons of trips to the beach and a lot more rocks!

Homemade Stamps

Age Range:  3+

Supplies:

Bottle Lids
Foam Paper
Craft Glue

We had a few lids sitting around and waiting to be used so we made stamps.  It is very simple.  We cut out the shapes that we wanted out of the foam paper and glued it onto the lids.

Once they dried they were ready to use.  Z was pretty excited about them and just used his regular stamp ink to make a picture.

Friendship Seashell Necklace

In Arts & Crafts Community on Google + we were challenged to do a craft using only 2 supplies.  Last week when we went to the beach my son found a shell with a perfect hole in it.  I told him we could make a necklace out of it and this was the perfect challenge to do that!

My Lucky Day

Most people never find a 4 leaf clover, even if they search every day.

I am one of those people who can walk past a clover patch and spot a four leaf clover as I walk by and stop to pick it up.

Recycling Batteries

This week's green tip will cover something small that can make a big difference!

Batteries!
Photo from Here

Did you know that batteries contain toxic chemicals like lead, mercury and cadmium? If they end up in landfills the chemicals could leak into the ground affecting the coil and water.

Teaching Kids Their Name and Address

It crossed my mind, briefly, a few times that my son should really learn his phone number, full name, address, and our real names.  I never gave it much thought because I thought he was too young to learn that stuff.  I never really thought of the importance of this information until I started thinking about what would happen if he got lost and didn't know his full name, or my real name.  How could he tell a police officer how to find us?  It is a very scary thought so I started working on it immediately.

Beach Play

It was a beautiful day with tons of sun and 60 degree weather. We went to the bay to play. It was the baby's first real time to the beach and he loved it. Z of course loves it too.

Swing Set Purchased!

If you haven't read about how my son has been saving his money you can read it here.

After saving since February he finally reached his $600 goal to get his swing set thanks to friends and family birthday presents and other holiday gifts.

He has had a picture of it that he looks at every day. I went to order the one he chose and the price had went up to $800! So I had to explain this to him and encourage a very upset 4 year old to pick a different one.

Garbage Disposals

Next Green Room Topic- Garbage Disposals! Contributed by Jes!

Did you know that garbage disposals aren't there to grind up ALL of the scraped food from plates and other dishes??

Garbage disposals are for the little bits of food that occasionally go down the drain.

  • Putting all of your scraps down the drain can clog sanitary sewers and is harmful to the environment.
  • FOG (fats, oils, grease) build up on the pipe walls restricting flow, thus leading to blockages that result in overflows into our homes, streets, down storm drains and into waterways, not good!

Measuring!

The last time my son was sick and we were stuck in the house, I had to entertain him so I gave him some water with food coloring and measuring cups.

Battling Kid's Frustration

I have noticed a lot lately my almost year old and 4 year old have been getting very frustrated with things very quickly. Z gets upset and throws frustration fits when something doesn't go his way. This includes putting things into a bag, puzzle pieces not fitting, a drawing not coming out how he wanted, and his scissor skills not being as good as he wants them.

Family Handprints Gift

Me and the kids made a cute handprint picture for my husband for Easter.
We started with the biggest hand and the lightest color and did hand prints where the thumbs and pointer fingers come together to make a heart shape. We let that completely dry.
