Gardening Preparation

Last year we were really barely situated in our new house when it was planting time so we attempted a potted garden.  We planted seeds to start them, but did it a little late so even though Z watered them lovingly with his repurposed creamer container.  After living here for over a year I realized that we will need raised beds to protect our plants from the bunnies, birds, and squirrels that frequent our yard!

At first my husband thought it would be fun to use pallets to make the beds with.  If any of you have ever tried to work with pallets, it is hard work!  The nails are thick and really hard to remove and if you do get them out, the wood is normally damaged.

So I decided that we need to just use new wood and build a few beds.  Nothing major to start, but enough to hold tomatoes, peppers, and maybe some cucumbers.  If these are successful we will expand.  I am not great at maintaining a garden so I need to make sure I can keep a small one going before I dive into a big one!

I have also researched hydroponics and it seems like a very interesting option for gardening without actually using soil.  This might be a good choice for me in the future.  If you are looking for hydroponic supplies, please click the link below to visit Access Hydroponic.

Hopefully within the next month or so we can start building our garden and start our seeds!
