Teaching Toddlers Thursday: F-I

Last week we started the alphabet in the toddler curriculum. This week we are continuing the letter learning and zoo animals. We are working on letters F through I.

It is only 4 letters because after having a week of everybody being sick and a field trip with Z on Monday, we didn't really focus on anything except getting back into the swing of things.

Songs we Sang:
Alphabet song

Books we Read:
Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What do you hear? by Bill Martin Jr and Eric Carle
My 'i' Sound Box by Jane Belk Moncure
From Head to Toe by Eric Carle (helps get the kids moving too)

We also pointed out words and animals in other books with the letters F through I. This week we didn't do many crafts because it was so nice outside that we spent most of our days outside.

We went to the zoo also and looked at all of the animals.

Here are some F words we focused on:
Fawn
Frog
Forest
Fan
Fog

G words:
Gold
Golf
Gorilla
Grill
Grapes

H words:
Halloween
Hippo
Happy
Head
Hands

I words:
Igloo
Island
Iguana
Ice

Each day we talked about these different words and pointed them out in pictures in books and if we saw the items throughout the day we focused on them.

Since it was the week of Halloween we colored a pumpkin and I bought these cute pumpkin creation kits that were very easy for the kids to do because they were basically foam stickers to make faces.
They were very proud of their creations!

On I day we took out some ice cubes and explored how they tasted and used them to draw on the table.

It was a fun week and I hope these ideas help you teach your toddlers! Stop back next week for letters J through N!
