Tea Tree Oil for Healing Skin Fungal Infection

About 2 months ago I went into a chlorinated pool with my wedding rings on.  The next day I had what I thought was a rash in between my ring and middle fingers.  I kept it clean and put some different things on it like cortizone and neosporine.  Nothing was working.  I went to visit my aunt who is a nurse and she told me it is a very common fungal infection and to get anti-fungal cream and apply it for about 2 weeks.  If it wasn't gone by then I would have to go see a doctor.  At the time we were iin between insurances and that just wasn't going to happen until we got our insurance back.

I used the cream for about 3 weeks but I forgot to put it on twice a day and it made my entire hand dry out even though I was only putting it on 1 spot.  It didn't improve at all so I started looking up some home remedies.

The main thing I kept seeing was Tea Tree Oil.  I decided to give it a try.  I got a bottle at walmart for about $7.00, which was cheaper than the anti-fungal cream.

I did some more research and found out that I cannot just apply it straight to my skin and that it needed a carrier.  I couldn't find much information on carrier oils so I talked to my sister who said I could use cocunut oil, vegetable oil, or olive oil among a variety of other things.  I chose vegetable oil because it was easiest.  I mixed about 1/4 cup of vegetable oil and 1 tsp of tea tree oil in a small container.

I use a papertowel to dab it onto my infection about 2-3 times per day.  It doesn't make me dry out and takes away the itch.  I have been using it for about a week straight now and I think I will be able to actually wear my rings again by the end of this week!

I am so glad I tried something new and there is a variety of things that tea tree oil is good for.  I am planning on using it more often.  It is amazing what the earth offers us, we just need to realize it is there and learn how to use it.

  1. Recently I decided to gradually go chemical free for choosing my natural antibacterial body soap. It was challenging at first, but tea tree oil made it too easy for me and my family. :)
