Managing My Time

Last night I had an epiphany!  Every night after my oldest son goes to bed at 8pm, I do my nightly cleaning.  I clean the kitchen from dinner and sometimes as far back as lunch, I straighten the play room, sweep, and prepare for the next day.

Needless to say, by the time I am done with everything by 830-9, I am ready to relax. Unfortunately that is when my night of homework and blogging starts.

I feel like I never actually get to relax at the end of the day because by the time I am done with everything, around 11, I am ready for bed.

Our nighttime normally goes; dinner, play time, bath time, baby goes to bed, 4 year old watches bedtime show, 4 year old goes to bed.

Last night I had my son watch his shows so that they ended when it was time for the baby to go to bed.  After I put the baby down I asked Z to help me clean up.  He was a great helper and cleaned up the toys and helped with the kitchen clean up.  I was able to get all of my clean-up done by the time Z went to bed.

It was so nice to be able to come back down and get started right away on my homework.  I was able to finish it faster because I wasn't as tired and then I actually got some relaxing time.

I didn't even consider recruiting my son to help with clean-up and we will be doing this from now on!  It not only teaches him responsibility but it also gives me a little bit of "me" time at the end of the night.

  1. Start him early! I regret not having Mr. Preteen help out early on. It's so hard to get him to help out. But that might also be because of puberty/attitude. He also had delays when he was younger and we were trying to power through those. Mr. 4 is an awesome helper, though. Anything you can do in order to get a some "me" time is awesome!

    1. It has actually been working really well and he has started getting upset when we have a busy night or something and he can't help me out because of bedtime. We are also working on an allowance because he likes saving his money to buy things he wants and we make charts so he can keep track. Right now he is intent on saving up for a Lego trash truck!

I look forward to your comments, they make my day!
