I participated in an online chat hosted by Awesomely Awake. The chat was about letting go of things and focusing on the positive in your life. This is something that I have a hard time with but I have been trying to be more positive in life. My sister gave me a few self-help CDs that encourage positive thoughts and even though I only listened to the set once, it did help and I plan on checking some more out from the library. I can't listen or read things over and over again, so new ones are a must!
During the chat, she talked about a gratefulness journal. Every night before bed, or even throughout the day, you write down things that you are grateful for. It can be anything.
I asked my sister if she does one and she said she has a personal one and does a family one during dinner every night.
Since dinner at my house is normally just me and the kids I decided to do my own and one for the family whenever it is best which will probably end up being at breakfast time.
So far I asked my 4 year old last night what he was grateful for and then tonight he asked me to ask him again, so I think it is a good start.
I have heard that whatever you are thinking at bedtime transfers to the morning so if you go to sleep angry, you wake up angry; if you go to sleep sad, you wake up sad; and if you go to bed thinking about things you are grateful for, the next day starts out bright and thinking positive starts happening every day.
I say it is worth a try!
What are you grateful for?
