Superman Name Sign

I completed my next pallet sign and I love it!  I made it for a friend's son for his birthday.  He is a big superhero fan and she said his room is primary colors so I chose (and she encouraged) Superman.  It just so happens that she is also an Atlanta Braves fan and they are the same colors!

This sign I wanted to try out spray paint because that is what kind of paint that I had the right shade of blue in.  So I sprayed the whole board, both sides and waited patiently (kind of) for it to dry.

Once it was dry I decided it was too bright blue and after looking at some pictures of Superman decided it needed some shading.  I used acrylic blue and black paints to get the right color and added some shading to the sides and throughout.  In the light it has a shimmery look from the spray paint to look like Superman and the shading tones it down a little.

After that I got to work on my Silhouette and made some stencils.  On my last sign I taped the stencil down and then dabbed paint on.  This took forever and I didn't really like it as much.  This time I traced the stencil onto the wood with a colored pencil.  Then I painted it with a thin brush.  I wouldn't recommend this unless you have a steady hand, but for me it worked great.

I bought the Superman art from the Silhouette store and traced it on with a black paint marker and used a mixture of acrylic and Oops paint to fill it in.

I always thought mixing paint types would be bad, but I had nothing but good come out of it so I will be doing it from now on!

I outlined all of the letters in his name with a white colored pencil (to give it an Atlanta Braves look) and then I sprayed it with a clear protective coat and I was done!  What do you think?

    1. Aww, thanks for featuring me! I didn't know if it was considered stenciled or not since I technically used a stencil to start! I will be stopping by to check it out, thanks again.
