Lightning Bug Hunt

One night after we noticed the lightening bugs were coming out, me and Z went on a lightning bug hunt. There is a corner of our yard that is a small strip of grass surrounded by trees. This is where our lightening bugs live!

We searched the whole yard before entering into their land. When we found it, they were everywhere.

Z was so excited he caught 5 of them and put them in a container with a piece if their "home". We poked holes to make sure that they could breath and they stayed the night on his nightstand.

To my surprise they were all still alive in the morning. Z went and set them free in their land.

From that night on we have went on lightening bug hunts every night and set them free in the morning. The past few days it has been raining so we have had to postpone the hunt, but plan on hunting every night this summer.

I think we accidentally just started a new tradition!
