The Best Sweet Tea

I am a southerner and I love sweet tea.  I have always just added sugar to tea and called it sweet tea.  Wow, was I wrong!  It was ok, but nothing to write home about.

My mother in law was in town and she said I need to use a simple syrup instead of just sugar.  I thought, yeah right, like that would make a difference.  Then my husband came home and drank some tea and said the same thing (for the first time in the 10 years I have been making him tea!)  So they both had different recipes for a simple syrup.  My MIL said 1 cup of sugar to 1 cup of water, my husband said 3 cups sugar to 2 cups water.  So I did my own recipe and did 2 cups of sugar to 1 cup of water.  I boiled the water and when it started to slightly boil I reduced the heat to med-low and added the sugar.  I stirred constantly until it turned clear.

For my tea I have a wonderful Mr. Coffee Iced Tea Maker.  We had one a few years ago and it broke and we never replaced it. My MIL was nice enough to buy a new one for us while she was in town and I really missed it!
All you do is add in the water, I use 4 Luzianne Specially Blended for Iced Tea, Family Size, 48-Count Tea Bags (Pack of 6) tea bags in the tea strainer.  I set it to brew strong and turn it on.

Once the tea is done, I added 1 1/2 cups of my simple syrup to the tea and filled the pitcher to the top with water (you can use ice if you want).

It was the perfect mixture and it tastes like real sweet tea!
