Frozen Balloons!

My son loves to measure everything, so I figured since water expands when it freezes, this could be a good lesson for him!

We filled up a whole bunch of balloons with water.

We measured them before we froze them and and wrote their size on them.

We froze them and Z patiently waited until the next day to check them out.

We measured each one and most grew about a half of an inch.

Then we cut the balloon off and he played with the ice for awhile!  He had a blast pouring salt on it and watching it crack and then adding some food coloring to see the cracks better.

I think our next experiment will be really neat since it is hot out now and he can see how much faster the ice balloons will melt!
