Feeding Your Baby What You Eat

When my son's doctor told us at 6 months that he can start eating everything that we eat, I was pretty surprised. With our oldest son, now 4, we were told not to give him any meat until 9 months.

Since I was already pureeing all of the baby's food in the magic bullet (shown at the bottom) it didn't take much to purée whatever we were eating for dinner.  I picked up the magic bullet at a yard sale for $10 and has been by far one of my best finds.  I have definitely gotten my money's worth!

I still stuck to fruit and veggies only at breakfast and lunch, but for dinner he ate what we did, and loved it!

He has pretty much devoured everything we have given him. I steer clear from spicy foods, sausage, and anything I just don't think he should have. If we happen to eat fast food or something fried, I give him a healthier alternative.

So far this has worked great and he is already eating what we eat, and most of the time I don't even have to purée it anymore. He has 8 front teeth already and chews pretty well.

The only problem that I have right now is that he wants everything we eat, no matter if he can chew it or not and whines until I either leave the room or give it to him!  It is probably better that way than for him to refuse everything...  As much as he eats, you would think he is a big baby, but he is far from it.

I researched it a lot and found out that the earlier that you start them on what you as a family normally eat, the less picky that they will be when they get older.  I have a little while to wait to see if it worked, but I hope it does!

How did you start your baby on solids?
